February 10, 2011 - A very pleasant stay - Review of Hotel Alfonso XIII, Seville published on TripAdvisor
We stayed here for two nights because we found a prepaid room rate of 119 euros/night on the starwood site. We were upgraded to a grand deluxe category room due to our Starwood gold status (thank you very much). The room was spacious and well furnished. One can feel the previous "opulance and elegance" that the hotel once possesed. It's a nice reminder of a previous time. It's still a special place. Staff was very courteous and helpful. Great location. Two computers for guest use for free. Parking cost was reasonable for big hotels in larger Spanish cities. We ate all of our meals and breakfasts in restaurants or tapa bars nearby in the city. Overall, the hotel was a very pleasant experience for us.

February 9, 2011 -Nicest experience in Seville - Review of Hotel Alfonso XIII, Seville published on TripAdvisor
I booked through WhataHotel at this special hotel in Sevilla and everything was lovely ,even I got some "extra-profits" only for WAH customers. I do recommend both the place and the agency for a very charming experience.

Peacefull atmosphere, you can hear horse footsteps in the morning as if you were in the 19th centurary. We had a memorable weekend thanks to the grat staff

February 8, 2011 -Worth the splurge! How beautiful! - Review of Hotel Alfonso XIII, Seville published on TripAdvisor
OK. Definitely not for the budget traveller. We didn't have reservations...but just kinda wandered in and asked. Room was +/-$330 US. It was more than reasonable for the location, quality, AND it was January 6th, on the actual parade route, with the big Epiphany Parade that evening. Less than a 5 minute walk to the Cathedral. 15 to the Bullfighting museum and arena. What can you say about a converted Palace. It was stunning. The Service was friendly. For those complaining that the rooms were dated - UMM DUH? Decor consistent with the period/architecture. Clean, huge room, wish I didn't have to leave.

February 4, 2011 -Worth a Stay - Review of Hotel Alfonso XIII, Seville published on TripAdvisor
The architecture is stunning, yet it does limit the decor options - leaving the rooms feeling a bit dated. Otherwise the rooms are spacious and quite nice. The restaurant is nothing to write home about, however, the city has tons of great places to eat and the concierge staff really know their stuff when it comes to picking dining spots. The bar is excellent. In general, I thought the staff was quite good. No question, I would stay here again and would recommend it to any traveling to Seville.

February 1, 2011 - Loved it! - Review of Hotel Alfonso XIII, Seville published on TripAdvisor
We stayed in a room that opened up to the courtyard and loved it. Winter in Sevilla is wonderful as the heat is not an issue. This hotel was very well maintained and our room was quiet. I enjoyed being able to walk to everything I wanted to see and do. However, when I needed a taxi, the front desk staff found one right away. It is a hotel to be spoiled in!

January 26, 2011 - Expect royal treatment from Amazing Staff!!!! - Review of Hotel Alfonso XIII, Seville published on TripAdvisor
I cannot say enough about the following people I had the pleasure of encountering. Look for them if you stay at the hotel. They will treat you like royalty! Delores, front office manager made sure I had a great room! Antonio, concierge arranged every little detail of my airport transfer, private driver and tour.Stephanie and Manuel in the restaurant. Stephanie greeted every guest in their native language and made sure everyone was taken care of. Manuel, head waiter in the AM was like the energizer bunny! He made sure every coffee cup, OJ, etc. was full. He cleared tables, set tables, checked the buffet, whatever it took to be sure his guests were happy. Rarely is there such an amazing staff in a hotel restaurant.Pepe, outside livery drivery contracted by the hotel for me. Just a wonderful driver and such a nice person to talk to. He brought me to places nobody else would see on an organized tour. Be sure to ask for Pepe if you are looking for a driver in Seville.Once the upcoming renovations are completed this hotel will be world class if they get the same staff back. I highly recommend staying here. The location is perfect. As with any city hotel there is outside noise from street level. A very safe area to walk around. Walking distance to all of the sights. Frankly, I cannot wait to go back after the renovations are completed.

January 25, 2011 - Excellent - Review of Hotel Alfonso XIII, Seville published on TripAdvisor
This hotel was beautiful and comfortable. My husband and I traveled to Spain with friends and we all loved Seville as well as the Alphonso XIII. My only complaint was that the pool was very crowded (it was well over 100 degrees outside and very humid) andthe drinks were pricey. The front desk helped us with rental cars, directions and recommendations during our stay. Will definitely advise friends to stay here!

January 14, 2011 - A treat in a beautiful unspoilt city - Review of Hotel Alfonso XIII, Seville published on TripAdvisor
The Hotel transports you to a bygone era, it's very grand with an opulent style. The courtyard restaurant is a lovely spot to eat breakfast with a canopy to shade from the sun. It is well situated within walking distance of all the city sites. I would go back, but my only criticism is that the rooms are very noisy, we had to asked to be moved and the staff obliged. I would therefore recomment a room with a courtyard view which although smaller was better insulated from the noise of the other guests and the city outside

December 12, 2010 - The most amazing hotel experience... ever possible - Review of Hotel Alfonso XIII, Seville published on TripAdvisor
It truly was a hotel experience - history, location, comfort, nice pool area, good food, beauty EVERYWHERE...if you are in Sevilla you must at least go here, if not stay here. We were fortunate to spend 3 nights here - and were sad to leave, even though it was hotter than hot (it was July...) We loved breakfast in the courtyard (my guy misses their orange juice a LOT), an afternoon dip in the pool, and simply wandering around seeing the ornate beauty of the hotel. It was easy to walk everywhere and we parked at the hotel. Note if you are parking here - you do have to drive on the 'road' that looks like it's either for pedestrians or horses or trains. It is actually for everything...we drove around 3x before working up enough guts to try it! :) Pleasant staff & a comfortable room rounded out the experience but the beauty of the hotel is the true star. If we're ever back in Sevilla it won't be a question - we're staying here, even if it means cutting something else to stay within budget.

November 26, 2010 - Very good - Review of Hotel Alfonso XIII, Seville published on TripAdvisor
Stayed for 5 days on business. An awesome hotel for staying in luxury. You are central to everything and within 10 min walk to all major attractions. Totally fantastic!! There is a bar attached to the hotel as your walking up to it , a good location to unwind. We went to a couple of local bars, not much happening but the alcohol is cheap once off the beaten path. North American travelers beware, Seville is not cheap, but if you go off the beaten path there are good values on food and entertainment, etc.

October 28, 2010 - Royal - Review of Hotel Alfonso XIII, Seville published on TripAdvisor
As I was in Spain for business for three months and my wife came over to visit I decided to book a top hotel in Seville for a romantic weekend. My expectations were high as the hotel website showed the hotel as impressive. It did not disappoint. The old agecharm, quality and grandness backed up with great service made this a memorable stay. The location is close to the old part of the city and most of the tourist points of interest are within walking distance

October 7, 2010 - Always want to stay there...
...but had only ever marvelled at the wonderful tiled reception. Wonderful to be a fully fledged guest. Pool very welcome after sightseeing but pool hours rather short, finishing at 7pm. Room was a little shabby chic but very comfortable all the same.

September 23, 2010 - Just Great - TripAdvisor
Good comfortable rooms, beautiful hall and interiour court, great breakfats buffet. When we got there, I was disappointed we did not have a king bed. They fixed everyting right away. Very nice bar. A really nice hotel which I recommend without hesitation.

September 21, 2010 - Good Hotel - TripAdvisor
Great hotel, excellent location. The building of the hotel, per se, is incredible. Rooms are comfortable (though one would expect housekeeping and/or management to review some small details - my room, for example, had some portions of the wallpaper near the power switch worn out). The swimming pool is beautiful and nicely kept. Hotel staff in general was very friendly (specially room keepers and pool staff - check-in attendant was friendly but had a bit of an attitude at the beginning, though). Definitely one of the best hotels in town.

September 20, 2010 - Just indulge yourself and go!! - TripAdvisor
Took my wife here for her 40th birthday and our 5th wedding anniversary. Absolutely beautiful and stunning hotel, incredible architecture etc. Lovely restaurant in open air, roof gets pulled over if needed, stunning. Food great, champagne breakfast, perfect what more do you want!! Rooms brilliant, beds really nice and comfortable, bathrooms lovely. Seville is a Beautiful city with plenty to do and see too. Pricey admittedly but you get what you pay for. Just save up your pennies and book it!!

September 16, 2010 - A magical place where love, warmth and opulence are illuminated by its magnificent superior staff - TripAdvisor
This magical place with its spectacular Moorish influenced architecture and wall designs takes one's breath away. If Aladdin flew into their fabulous lobby on his carpet people might not be that shocked! It's elegant center courtyard with its beautiful bird-filled fountain could somehow urge couples to fall in love all over again. The legendary Rudolph Valentino in his sheik image would never go back to his tent if he found this opulent palace.I do wonder though why this hotel is no. 17. I have to admit that I did visit the hotel that is no.1 and while it has its own attractive appeal it is not what I consider the Landmark hotel the Alfonso is. And the view from our massive balcony where anyone could have their own roomy cocktail party is truly magnifcent of the floodlit Cathedral. It was here at night when I thought of the loving sweetness of our beloved dog Gia who died soon after our plane left for Spain. This view and its surroundings was quite mystical on these balmy Summer nights and gave me time to deal with what Italians call the "dolc'amare"(bittersweet) that tinged our wonderful stay at this hotel. But it was the very ambience of this oasis that gave us a sense of healing like a mother that comforts their crying child. The staff was unbelievable in their assistance and caringness. Special thanks goes to Maria Dolores, who was this beautiful Sevilliana woman whose eyes radiated the sunny disposition of this hotel. Also Antonio who was always their to be helpful and could also work as a Concierge very easily. And special thanks to my "phone buddy" Luis. He was the source and a font of information before we arrived at the hotel because he told me so much about the Alfonso and everything that Sevilla had to offer. What more can I say about the "royal" service of the breakfast staff who might be smiling about the enchantiing surroundings not only of this courtyard but all the other venues and salons in this dreamy place. My favorite spot at night was the tented Martini Bar with it beautiful flame colored chandeliers. The pool is surrounded with lush foilage and makes one feel that they are in a kind tropical rain forest. As to what is close to the hotel one can easily walk to both the Cathedral and the fantasic Alcazar and its gardens. There are also a group of horse-driven carraiges out front where I have never seen so many white horses. The tram also stops in front of the hotel and the subway is only around a block away. Restaraunts abound and one does not have to take a cab to most tourist sites. If I might be going on about the Alfonso I can only say see for yourself. Further, it seemed that that we began to feel like this was our wonderful home and refuge and because of that we will always think of the Alfonso as a place that gave us some peace and hope as we mourned our little Gia. I can go on and on but I believe you understand how we felt while resting our heads(the beds are "heavenly" in this most gentile and gracious hotel. My hat goes off to their Manager who most avidly looks at the reviews on this website. I will close now with this and that is that we left a litle bit of our hearts at the Alfonso and Sevilla and we wait patiently to return to this most endearing Palace.

September 11, 2010 - the best hotel in the area moroccon type - TripAdvisor

September 9, 2010 - A Wonderful Hotel - TripAdvisor
The Alfonso XIII is a wonderful hotel. Its an old palace, and the interior (and exterior) of the hotel is beautiful. We had nearly perfect service, and a very nice and comfortable room. While we didnt have time to use the pool or fitness center, it was nice to know they were available, especially in the very hot Seville summer. Breakfast was good, but not great, and served in a beautiful setting. I definitely recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to Seville!

September 7, 2010 - Unique and culturally interesting - TripAdvisor
It is just cool to stay in an old palace that has been maintained like the Alfonso XIII. Our room was huge and the thick walls ensured that we did not hear a peep from any other guests. The bathroom was extremely large as well with lots of room for toiletries and the like. The hotel staff was extremely helpful in helping me locate a 24-hour pharmacy late at night that was within walking distance and easy to reach and helped me translate my English into Spanish so that the pharmacist knew exactly what to give me. Worth a lot. Hotel has charm and character and modern conveniences.

August 31, 2010 - Lover every minute - TripAdvisor
With a heavy heart we are checking out today after 5 magical nights in Seville. From the moment you walk into the perfumed and tiled lobby you are treated like a VIP guest, with Andy and his team at the Front Desk and concierge especially helpful. We slept nearly nine hours every night, and that was even after great times in the evening sampling delicious tapas and fabulous vino de naranja in town. This could be because the pillows are the softest anywhere in the world, but we also liked having a room over looking the interior patio which is exceptionally quiet. The buffet breakfast is good, with healthy options aswell as naughty treats. Sevilla has been extremely hot (40 degrees) during our stay but the staff were always careful to remind us of the sun whenever we left the property. The pool is restful and the entire hotel is beautifully maintained, as a grandees house. Above all, it´s v quiet, despite being 5 mins walk from major sites like cathedral and alcazar. When we come back to Seville, as we hope to, we will definitely stay here again, which iswhat you hope for in a hotel (unlike the hotel we stayed at in Cyprus last week..).

August 27, 2010 - Cool - TripAdvisor
hoose this hotel for space, helpful staff, and Seville. This hotel may disappoint those who require big screen televisions or who prefer not to be reminded that they are away from home. The staff are keen to please and the chamber maid(s) deserve specialmention for immaculate and detailed work. The pool is one you can swim in, not an ornament, and it is well kept. This beautiful building has elegance, charm, style and space. One improvement to service would be to have a cooled water dispenser at reception.

26 August, 2010
Hotel Alfonso XIII in Seville was wonderful. The staff were delightful and very helpful. The hotel itself is beautiful - the public areas as well as the individual guest rooms. It is situated very close to the Seville Cathedral - one of the most beautifulEuropean Cathedrals I've seen, and many shops and cafe's are within easy walking distance. The pool is also quite nice and very popular in the summer afternoons. Its is a lovely place to swim, sit and read, or take a nap to prepare for the cooler, very pleasant, and late evenings. I found this hotel to be well worth the price and greatly appreciated not being nickel and dime'd at every turn like some higher priced resorts I have visited. There are no extra charges or surprises. I would not hesitate to visit Alfonso XIII again. One recommendation I do have however is for the hotel to offer free WiFi to all guests throughout the hotel. An establishment of this stature really should be providing this service to their guests.

August 4, 2010 - Great service and a wonderful experience at a very nice hotel! - TripAdvisor
My wife and I stayed at the Alfonso XIII for three nights as part of a two week trip through Spain and France, and it was one of our favourite hotels on our trip. My wife was familiar with the hotel from a previous trip to Seville, but had not stayed there before. Unlike the experience shared by one of the other recent reviewers, we found the staff to be very friendly and helpful (we are in our late 30's and dressed casually too most of the time). We arrived early during a busy time at the hotel and before we even got out of the taxi our bags were being loaded on to a luggage cart and the staff made an extra effort to check us in early. The staff also surprised us with a small gift because we were celebrating a special occcasion. Given that we were only staying for 3 nights, found a promotional rate for our room online and weren't staying in a luxury suite, we were very surprised by this wonderful gesture which helped make our stay even more enjoyable. The swimming pool was a true gem. Always clean and even when it was busy, there were always lots of fresh towels. We had been extremely disappointed by the pool at a hotel in Nice, and this experience more than made up for it. The Martini bar was a nice treat. The patio is a nice mix of very funky decor and music, yet within the classic old hotel setting. Avoid the Cafe & Te across the street from the hotel. We went their for breakfast one morning and had the worst breakfast ever (who burns a fried egg beyond recognition and thinks it's okay to serve it). We didn't try the buffet at the hotel because we wanted a light breakfast most days, but we heard good things about it and in hindsight wish we had tried it at least once.It was very hot in Seville and the air conditioning was very strong, so that every time we returned to our rom from sight seeing we cooled off nicely. The mini bar fridge was also quite cold so our drinks were refreshing (this might seem like a small point, but after being disappointed by a couple of hotels in France where the fridge wasn't cool enough this was worth noting!).My wife just pointed out that there was a bit of mould in our shower, but I hadn't noticed it.

July 21, 2010- Right Royal Fun - Tripadvisor
We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. Coming from a country whose architectural history is very young we love to stay in old historic buildings in Spain so this 20th century offering didn't quite fit the bill on paper. In person, however, it is absolutely charming and is, of course, part of an important chapter in Spain's history. From the opulent foyer to to the marble flooring and Triana tiling in our spacious room it seemed that nothing had been spared in creating a building that reflected both the "modern" Spain 1920s and the town's Mudejar history. We loved the location, and the hotel's central courtyard was a stunning environment for breakfast. The pool was a haven on hot afternoons. The door and reception staff were very friendly and the room was very well serviced every day. There is a small museum on the ground floor for those who are interested in the hotel's history and significance, which I think the Starwood chain could make more of. Overall, a great stay in a very special place.

July 13, 2010- Great stay- Tripadvisor
Our overall impression of the hotel was very good. The room was well-appointed, comfortable bed, good bathroom. The breakfast, while pricey (EUR 27 per person) was great, and the restaurant setting (shaded courtyard) was idyllic. The bar staff were friendly, and the hotel showed the world cup final in three different rooms, including one with a large projector screen and surround sound.
The location is very good - opposite the Alcazar and cathedral, and there is a taxi rank, horse and carriage rank, underground metro station and tram stop right outside the hotel.
There were a few minor service glitches such as noisy aircon in the first room we were shown (immediately shown a different room), room not made-up when we returned to it late afternoon (fruit, sherry and water delivered to the room by way of apology), and lack of availability of clean towels by the pool (promptly brought to the pool once brought to the attention of a staff member). While you could argue that these issues should not have arisen in the first place, the fact that they were swiftly dealt with in my view points to the high level of service available.

July 11, 2010- elegant- old school Spain-Tripdavisor
The King Alfonso is an historic destination in its own right. It's gorgeous, stately and....old. This means you have to expect a degree of quirkiness--the rooms are not consistent, some tile needs replacing....but this adds to the authenticity of the experience. We found the staff to be very friendly, helpful and open. They were more than happy to help us with reservations and answer questions. We are very "casual" travelers--on this occasion were even traveling with backpacks--and were treated warmly throughout our stay. The pool is a welcome, truly elegant respite in the midst of a wilting Seville afternoon. We'll never forget our four night stay at the amazing Alfonso.

July 2, 2010- Luxurios hotel with great views and wonderful food- Tripadvisor
Our five night stay at this wonderful hotel blew us away! The hotel is beautiful - the style of the building is amazing and the inner courtyard is ever so nice! The bed was wonderful and the marble floors in the bedroom were a welcome treat from the heat outside. We ate breakfast, lunch and dinner at the hotel and were very impressed with the service and quality of food. That said, I would also recommend eating in other restaurants in the town for more atmosphere as there didn't appear to be that many locals eating at the hotel. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Thanks for a great stay!

June 25, 2010- Superb hotel in great location- Tripadvisor
A top notch, grand old hotel built in 1929 in classic Andalucian style. Attactive azulejo-lined hallways. Room 328 i third (top) story, excellent. Large room and bath bed comfortable, a/c perfect and silent. Superb service; front desk very helpful
Nice courtyard is an excellent place for a drink or snack. We did not eat dinner there. Huge breakfast buffet, everything possible is there and excellent.
Great location, close to cathedral and rstaurants. One block from river and a short walk across river to medium-scale riverside restaurants on the Trianna side. Behind the cathedral, we recommend a sidewalk dinner at Giradello, not cheap but good food and the pasing scene is fun.

June 4, 2010- Hotel Alfonso XIII, Seville- Fanastic Hotel
Allfonso XII Hotel is really a destination by itself! The Hotel is absolutely beautiful from the lobby to the rooms. I am quiet suprised by the reviews that parts of the Hotel are dated - isn't that part of the charm of a historic place. The rooms are extremely quiet, clean and comfortable which is also very nice. The tile work throughout the hotel is stunning! I also cannot say enough about the Hotel staff. Everyone was extremely friendly and spoke excellent English. The Hotel is in a perfect location in Seville. We were able to walk easily to all of the sites that we wanted to see. We also spent quite a bit of time at the Hotel as we discovered that the food in the Hotel was much better than the food at the various restaurants that we visited (all of which were recommended by various guide books). The courtyard of the Hotel is a fantastic people watching location and a great place for drinks. My only disappointment with the Hotel is that you could not order food n the courtyard. Bar Alfonso however had fantastic food choices (tapas type food, but very large portions) and an amazing drink menu. The Hotel restaurant is also very good. I will definitely stay here again on my next trip to Seville. (Tripadvisor)

June 3, 2010- Hotel Alfonso XIII, Seville- Stay in a landmark

This is a beautiful, historic hotel. Just to think about the poor laborers who had to haul all the marble to build this palace makes me sympathetic. But bless their departed souls, they built a fabulous building that is now a landmark. We stayed in a suite which looked out to the university across the way. The suite's 15 foot ceilings put me in deep ease. The standard Westin sweet dreams king bed did not disappoint -- it never has! Some of the furnishings and carpeting do show some age, but this is an old hotel and the wear & tear are minor. We had free internet because I'm a Platinum Starwoods member, but it is not WIFi. There's a gym located adjacent to the outdoor pool. It's a long, skinny hallway of a gym with a minimum of fitness equipment & weights -- it was adequate for light exercising. Last but not least, the location is fantastic: tram and buses stop right outside the hotel; one of the city's many bike stations is behind the hotel. But nothing beats walking, when the major sights are just short jaunts away.

May 12, 2010

The Hotel Alfonso XIII is not only considered "the" place to stay in Seville, Spain, but it's listed as a historical site for non-guest tourists as well. And there's a good reason for this: architecturally the building looks like a Moorish castle! Built for the King's visit after the Barcelona World's Fair in 1929, the hotel's decor is traditionally Sevillian with classic archways, marble columns, and beautiful mosaics in rich colors.

Just to give you a hint of the luxuriousness of this hotel, Cameron Diaz was staying there when I was there. She was filming a movie with Tom Cruise in Seville at the time, so I assume he may also have been a guest. Diaz even felt comfortable enough to come down to the public but low key breakfast buffet room.

I enjoyed the Alfonso very much. The staff went out of their way to help me, and I loved the hotel's old world style. Its location is, quite simply, perfect. It's such a landmark in the small city that it serves as an axis from which to explore other areas. Both taxis and horse-drawn carriages wait alongside the hotel, so you are never without fast and ready transportation. In fact, there are horse-drawn carriages everywhere in Seville, or you can rent a bicycle or take one of the trams that whiz through the streets. That said, Seville is very much a walking city, so I only took taxis to and from the airport. I was able to easily walk from the Alfonso to every area or site I wanted to visit.

One of the most beautiful areas of the hotel is its courtyard, but since I was visiting in December, it was a bit chilly to sit outside. Seville doesn't get nearly as cold as other areas of Spain, however, so during the day, the temperatures rose to the low 60s Fahrenheit. I stayed in a small suite with a good sized balcony with a city view. I had a bedroom and a separate living area with a couch, desk, and chairs. As is typical in Spain, my bed was two singles placed together to make a larger bed. I especially liked the bathroom with its ceramic mosaic tiles that created an iridescent striped effect in white, copper, and dark blue.

All of the rooms contain antiques and are decorated in Baroque, Castilian, or Moorish styles. All rooms also contain an LCD television, CD player/radio, rainforest shower head in the bathtub, a telephone in the bathroom, a data port, alarm clock, wireless keyboard, safe, and minibar. High speed Internet service comes with a charge of 15 Euros per day, or you can use the computer that is set up in the lobby for free. The 147 total rooms include three different types of suites of varying sizes, as well as deluxe rooms and the Royal Suite, which features a canopy bed and private butler service.

Now a Starwood property, the Alfonso maintains an outdoor swimming pool, which is surrounded by palm trees. The fitness centre can be accessed 24 hours a day with your room key, and it includes treadmills, stair steppers, stationary bikes, and rowing machines - all with individual television screens and headphones. A beauty salon/barber shop is on premises, and there are three shops in the lobby, which include a Spanish designer clothing boutique called Loewe, an Italian Vasari jewelry shop, and a souvenir shop. There are eight meeting rooms in the hotel, and it offers special wedding packages.

The concierge also arranges for private transfers to and from the airport or train station, and the hotel will ship luggage for you. The Alfonso has several restaurants and bars. The Bar Alfonso is the former personal meeting room of King Alfonso XIII, while the Piazza Martini is a laid back lounge, and the Bar San Fernando is a popular meeting spot with a piano bar. The San Fernando Restaurant is a formal dining room that requires black tie.

The rooms and suites range in price from approximately 450 Euros to 900 Euros, depending upon the size of room you choose. At the risk of sounding like an advertisement, the Hotel Alfonso XIII is more than a hotel - it's an experience. And it's a quintessential experience in Seville. Just walking through the beautiful building takes you back in time and makes you feel in your bones that you are unquestionably in Andalucia.

"We just loved it" A perfectly located hotel, exellent location for sightseeing, just in the middle of charming Seville, next to Alcazar and Girada. We really enjoyed it palace-like style and elegant atmosphere. The breakfast was very good, the stuff nice and friendly and helpful. The room was beautifully furnished and very comfortable. But one of the table lamps in our room was not working, but it was fixed after we complained. We loved the view of the park and the beautiful buildings that opened from our windows. The hotel in not cheap, but definitely worth staying there

I would whole-heartedly recommend the Hotel Alfonso XIII. Whilst it has a certain faded glamour, this almost adds to the feeling that you're staying somewhere special. The courtyard in which breakfast is served is absolutely delightful, a tranquil oasis close to the centre of vibrant Seville - so much so, that it's almost worth visiting the hotel even if you're not staying there. The only thing that was unpleasant about the whole experience was going to a bull-fight. For any people out there with sensibilities towards animal cruelty, just be aware: this "tradition" is as barbaric and brutal as you can possibly imagine. We left after 10 minutes. Otherwise, our trip was fantastic: great food, an ecelectic mix of architecture, and of course, the wonderful Hotel Alfonso XIII.

I am from Chicago and was visiting my daughter who was doing a semester in Seville. Everyone at the hotel was very accomodating and the hotel was very beautiful. The hotel was very near to the river and close to everything I wanted to see
***

We enjoyed old world luxury during our stay at the Hotel Alfonso XIII. The location was great and the hotel and grounds absolutely beautiful. Make sure you have breakfast in the hotel's atrium.
***

Just walk out the front door of the hotel, take a left, and stroll through the streets of Seville. Make sure you stop for a gelato!

I added this stop to the end of six weeks of travels, a one night stay, flying out early the next morning. The Queen room was small, but well appointed. I enjoyed a perfect lobster salad on the patio. Left too early next morning to sample the breakfast that came with my room. The real signature treasure of the hotel was the staff, from bell captain to conceirge to chef, all professionals. The conceirge efficiently handled shipping two international packages, the accumulations of six weeks of travel. The city is beautiful, a walking city. My stay was short so I did not enjoy the hotel at liesure, but the service was memorable, and I would gladly return.

Walk the old Jewish quarter. I'd skip the local tour bus of city and just get a map. The bus cannot go into the older parts of city, so at best you get an edge view. Put on your walking shoes and enjoy!

You will be treated like royalty and sleep like royalty. Beautiful facility, beautiful rooms and great location. A bit pricey but a real treat - it was worth the stay!

We were extremely happy with this hotel. Convenient to all the hot spots with parking for the car, room was comfortable with all the amenities, service was first class, as was the food. The rate was impressive for a five star hotel, though we stayed here at the end of January

After scouring the reviews, I did select a grand deluxe room. Mine had no issues, no sign of inferior quality. This is a historic hotel. It is a stunning example of architecture and design. From the azulejos (tiles) to the carved ceilings, to the stained glass, open courtyard, and silk-wrapped walls. The location is fantastic. About a 5 minute walk from the cathredral. Taxis awaiting you for any other trip across town. Scored all this for $150 a night. Fabulous!

We stayed here on Tuesday. It is an absolutely magnificent building, words can't really do it justice. The friendly receptionist gave us a room upgrade, so our room was very big and lavishly decorated. The bed was king size and very comfortable. The tiling the bathroom was very decadent. We had a drink in the bar in the evening and there was a good atmosphere with spanish and non spanish people making for an interesting mix. The breakfast in the morning was lovely. The hotel offers very good rates off-season.

Sorry for the late review, but time does get away sometimes. My wife and I arrived in Sevilla by train from Granada and went straight to the hotel Alfonso XIII whrer the fromt desk checked us in in record time. We then went to our room, which we found furnished with exquisite antique pieces. Then went down to the Piazza Martini where the service was wonderful and the staff was very attentive and engaging with us in conversation. I remember at one time one staff member told us "we are so glad you are going to make this your home while in Seville." From the Butler Service to the Concierge service to the food service we found this property to be as good as any we have ever stayed in through the world. We would recommend it to anyone.

The ornate decor and luxurious furnishing of our allocated suite (fabulously spacious and opulent)surpassed my expectations . It was absolutely gorgeous and stunning in every aspects. Would i stay here again? ABSOLUTELY YES !

This is with out doubt one of the very best hotels I have stayed in.Very friendly staff and valet parking. Lovely hotel, you simply have to visit. We had a wonderful room on the ground floor, very high-ceilinged.One day we went back to the hotel 3 times during the day, and every time in-between the maid had been there, folding the toilet paper and changing the towels, we used the laundry service, as we had only planed to stay one night, we ended up staying 4 nights, and we just didn't want to leave. Well our underwear and t-shirts were ironed and folded in silk paper.Everything about this hotel was perfect, super clean, excellent service, delicious breakfast, and lovely pool. Hope to be back again one day, and can only give this hotel my very best recommendations

 Aug 13, 2009 >> Unique property - and indulgence but worth it! » 13 Aug 2009

Our family of 4 (parents and two daughters ages 15 and 12) stayed here for 4 nights at the end of July 2009. This hotel is over the top amazing! We had a two bedroom suite (1 king bedroom and bath and 1 double room and bath, separated by a large living area with comfy couches, plasma TV, etc.) at the top of the grand staircase on the second floor. We were bowled over by the extravagance of the room, from the exquisitely tiled bathroom, to the wood-paneled wardrobe and silk upholstered walls. The only complaint would be the weak hair dryers mounted on the wall (you know the ones - have a long hose that looks like it belongs on an old "bonnet" style hairdryer from the 1960s!). The breakfast buffet is extensive and quite good. Although Spanish scrambled eggs are a little runny for my taste (we encountered this in several hotels -not unique to the King Alfonso). Concierge and front desk staff were very friendly and helpful. The pool is small and it is a bit awkward to reach, but it is set in a lovely garden. As an added bonus, Bruce Springsteen was staying at the hotel while we were there (he performed in Seville on July 28) and his room was on our floor. My daughters met him in the elevator and at the pool and he was very friendly.

This is a fabulous property in a great location within the city. We had 2 rooms, one of which was a corner suite on the front side of the hotel with a view of the cathedral, and the other a standard room. The rooms are spacious and clean with a large bathroom, comfortable beds, well functioning A/C, and efficient housekeeping service. There is a pool area on the backside of the hotel which makes for a nice cool-off opportunity at the end of a hot day exploring this charming city. We especially enjoyed the outdoor Martini Bar which was located on the terrace along the side of the hotel which was great for an evening cocktai.

July 24 , 2009 >> Check-In to History » Review published in Tripadvisor

3 weeks ago my wife and I checked into this remarkable property as part of our month long wedding/honeymoon and journey through Spain. Combined we've traveled to Sevilla (not Seville) a dozen times or so and like most travelers in the know, found ourselves returning time and again to this majestic city. Although we have visited the Alfonso XIII a number of times for various reasons (drinks at the exquisite Martini Bar, breakfast, etc.) we have never stayed. Admittedly, I'm glad we hadn't until now. As far as I'm concerned, the Alfonso XIII is one of the most memorable hotel experiences a person could expect or need. From the scent of orange blossom permeating throughout the lobby greeting you at check-in, to the silk lined bedroom walls, this hotel offers its residents old world charm and a time warp to the roaring 20's when it was first constructed. The staff at the hotel is wonderful and responds efficiently to requests adding "Right away ______," in my case it was Mr. Joseph. Sorry, I get such a kick out of that. The pool is quite the oasis during siesta, especially in June and July when the heat of Southern Spain tends to be oppressive. Overall, the Alfonso is a great hotel that can satisfy a range of vacationing palates. On a brief side note, I'm surprised that a number of reviewers had a disappointing stay at the property. To alleviate indecision amongst prospective occupants and attempt to set the record straight, the Alfonso XIII is a hotel for travelers and hotel enthusiasts who appreciate a setting radiating with tradition and nostalgia. Sure the hotel has a few bumps and bruises as other travelers have documented, but what do you expect from a building approaching its 82nd birthday. In short, if your seeking a newly constructed hotel with modernist comforts and decor, you may want to consider another property

July 10 , 2009 >> Sevillicious! A perfect place to stay in a beautiful, vibrant city » Review published in Tripadvisor

We spent 4 nights in the Alfonso xiii and didn't want to leave! The hotel was superb and hasn't yet succumbed to the commercialised blandness of some hotel chains. If you want 5 star glitz then this is not the place for you but if you want 5 star traditional luxury in an authentic Andalucían style then you will love the Alfonso. The service was great and the atmosphere reflects the hotel's history as a palace for visiting royalty to stay when visiting Seville. The breakfast buffet is extensive and the patio area where breakfast is served is stunning. The outdoor pool area is a welcome oasis from the heat of the day which even the slight traffic noise can't spoil.I'm not sure that the Martini Bar on the terrace is in keeping with the rest of the hotel but having said that we found ourselves spending quite a bit of time in there early evening before we went out for tapas! And as for Seville................certainly the most beautiful, vibrant and interesting city in Spain if not Europe! The hotel is not cheap but when you compare what you get against some English hotels, it is well worth the money.

Having never spent $400 on a hotel stay before, I expected much more for the amount I was paying. This historic hotel is fabulous, spacious, and the breakfast buffet was extensive. Its one of the most beautiful hotels I have ever stayed in. However, the room was a standard size, nothing spectacular. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Also, the location can't be beat, easy access to the major sites and public transportation. It was a bit of an ordeal getting here from the train station using a bus, so I recommend a taxi.

The Alfonso XIII is a fantastic property built in the 20's with a Moorish exotic feel. The staff was wonderful and very accommodating. Our rooms were fantastic with a fully equiped bathroom. The blow dryer was inadequate and they were glad to send a fullyoperating one quickly. The restaurant was a wonderful experience. The food was perfectly prepared and they sped up the check out process suffiently as we had a Flamenco Show at Los Gallos to make. The staff helped with scheduling a hike in the National Park. The pool is lovely. The hotel is not cheap but worth the splurge!

Spent two nights in early June in this wonderful hotel and would love to go back. Weather was very hot during our stay but had no problem keeping the room cool even during the hottest part of the afternoon. The electric shutters come down and the room is dark and cool even during the hottest part of the afternoon. We took naps or went to the lovely pool when it was to hot go out sight seeing. The room was large, well lit and very stylish While the bathroom did not have a seperate shower the tub was huge and filled quickly. The tile work is amazing and having breakfast in the courtyard in the morning is not to be missed. We did not have dinner in the hotel but recommend the bar for a drink.Seville is a wonderful city and you can't beat the location of this hotel, ur room looked out on the pool and the University and it was about five minutes walk to the palace. It is not inexpensive but it is certainly a treat and in my view worth the cost.

July 2009 >> Great Hotel in a great location in a wonderful city. » Review published in Tripadvisor

We arrived on the 27th of May and spent two nights at the Alfonso XIII. My wife loved it and hated to leave. I thought the location was great, an easy walk to all the sites. It was unseasonably hot while we were in Seville, highs of about 37 or 38 every day but the AC in the kept the room cool and the pool made a wonderful place to hang out during the hottest parts of the day.Our room was large and well appointed as was the bathroom. While the bathroom did not have a separate shower it was in all other respects everything you would want and expect in a top luxury hotel. Other reviews have complained about small tvs but our was a large flat screen and we had three or four english language stations available to catch up on the news of the day.Seville is a wonderful city and this is a beautiful and romantic hotel in a perfect location. The old small disappointment was that the breakfast in the courtyard did not live up to the setting - it was good but not wonderful and given my other experiences at this hotel I expected an extraordinary breakfast. We did not have lunch or dinner at the hotel so I can't comment on other meals.I highly recommend this hotel and look forward to returning.

We spent 2 nights here in May and would highly recommend this hotel. It really is an oasis in the middle of the beautiful city of Seville. Our room was very clean and well furnished, the bed comfortable and the outside space was wonderful. It was great to return at midday and chill by the pool. The only negative would be the cost of the food and drink at the hotel but much of this is due to the poor exchange rate. We booked our own flamenco at the Casa de la Memoria which we really enjoyed. We hope to return next year

The service was friendly and helpful. The concierge booked a Flamenco show for us and wehad the best seats in the house. The rooms themselves were spacious by European standards, pretty and clean. It was obviously an 80 year old hotel with a bathroom door that didn't close properly. If you are a Starwood regular expecting a W you will be disappointed. I loved this hotel! The rooms were spacious and had great views overlooking a park. The staff was great. The location was perfect . . . we could walk to everything . . .The Cathedral, Santa Cruz, Plaza De Espana and more; we never had to use a taxi or public transportation. They had a great outdoor bar, a nice stop to finish the evening. Service was wonderful. When we wanted to go to a Flamenco show they had two options for us, made the reservation and we had the best seats in the house. They also took care of reservations at Banos Arabes (a lovely spa, I recommend it) and payment so we didn't have to bring our wallets to the spa.The one thing to be prepared for; this is a historical hotel and not your typical Starwood. Yes it has the comfortable beds but it does not have the modern feel of many Starwoods. I loved the charm but it may not be for everyone.

May 5, 2009 >> Elegant, Superb and Worth Every Euro » Review published in Tripadvisor

Review published in TripadvisorThe Alfonso is a beautiful, impressive and grand hotel. My husband and I stayed here for two nights while visiting Seville. I booked the hotel off-season and got a great price through Expedia. Our room had an Arabic theme. It was elegantly decorated with gold damask fabric covered walls and dark rich furniture. There was ample storage, closet space and a small dressing area. And the bathroom .... Wow .... The opalescent Arabic themed tiles were a bit ostentatious but perfect considering the theme of the room. The fabulous buffet breakfast was included with our stay. You must bring your appetite because the cuisine was delicious. The restaurant offered a variety of foods to suit any taste. There were an array of breads, rolls and pastries, fruits, yogurts, eggs, ham, sausage, veggies, salmon, caviar, cheeses and sweets. You will not be disappointed. The breakfast will have a dish for any palate. Take the time to wander throughout the hotel. The rooms are truly magnificient. There are numerous sitting areas you can curl up in to relax with a book, have a drink or just enjoy the ambiance. It was a little chilly to enjoy the courtyard but it is beautiful. My husband and I had dinner at the restaurant on the final night of our stay. It was a bit pricey but expected. We were not disappointed. Oh my gosh .... the olive bread was so good!!! For the entrees, my husband had the grilled fish while I had the delicious pumpkin soup and grilled veggies. The pool was closed due to the season. But, there was a gym. There were treadmills, free weights and some work out stations. It was suitable to get your work out in. If it was not for the exceptional price offered, we probably would have stayed at another hotel. I would definately recommend this hotel to a fellow traveler who was willing to splurge on a 5 star hotel. We were not disappointed because it was perfect!

May 4 , 2009 >> Fabulous historic hotel »Review published in Expedia

The hotel is one of two five star hotels is Seville. It was built in early 1900's in preparation for the Iberianexpo in 1929. It was named afer King Alfonso XIII who was the last king of Spain. The hotel is an architectural masterpiece with marble floors, high ceilings with intricate cornices, fabulous mosaic tile work. The walls in the bedroom were padded and covered with damask cloth. The bathroom was tiled in a moorish motif. The bedding was down (coverlet and pillows)and extreemly comfortable. Chocolates, strawberries and pinapple dipped in chocolate mysteriously appeared each night. Breakfast, for us, was included in the room rate. It was an elaborate buffet-beyond belief-everything from scrambled eggs, smoked salmon, baked tomatos, fresh omelets, champagne, fresh oj; four tables full of delicious food. The staff was helpful while not hovering. One night there was a party and a loud band playing under our window until 1:30 AM.Remembering that in Spain things don't get started until after ten o'clock helped but I still lost a half nights sleep. The pool was beautiful- The location was smack dab in the middle of ole Seville and a short distance to Triana, the April Feria, and bull ring.

Aside from the lushly appointed, quiet rooms, the bathrooms are really the hotel's best feature. If you're used to bathrooms that double as showers or shower doors that pop out from the wall in most European hotels, this will seem like absolute welcome luxury. We also enjoyed the outdoor Martini bar, which the staff made confortable even in cooler temperatures

My husband remembered seeing this hotel 30years ago on a school trip and how posh it looked so it was a real thrill to stay here and we weren't disappointed. We had booked a delux room which was lovely in an old fashioned marble/ mahogony way. The bathroom tles were amazing, giving the impression of gilt wall paper.. The bed was huge and very comfortable. The shutters ensured complete quiet at night so that we slelp in both mornings. The walls were padded and covered in fabric (? Silk). all in all luzury of a bygone era. Breakfast (included in our rate) had everything including caviar. There were two bars open at night, a tented Martini bar which was ok and a panalled old fashioned place. Staff were friendly in particular a Peruvian bartender who was a real gentleman combining friendliness with grace befitting the establishment.

A grand hotel with the loveliest hotel corridors I’ve ever seen. Our room suffered from traffic noise but most of the large rooms on our floor would have done. Smaller rooms facing into the courtyard would have been completely quiet. The service was absolutely outstanding. For example the bathroom only had one of those underpowered hairdryers fixed to the wall. We phoned to ask if they could lend us a better one and a good hand held dryer arrived almost instantly, still in its box and original wrapping. Breakfasts were good but the lunch we had was very mediocre. A pity as everything else is so good and the dining room is lovely. But we had only one good meal in four days in Seville and I recommend doing a bit of research before going out to eat.
